With S4 around the corner, a lot of paladins are being frantic. I have seen posts every other day about “what are we going to do in s4?”, “Good luck paladins getting shoulders!” and other remarks that seem very, well, almost depressing.
Don’t be. Stop letting these ratings take over your head on what you play this game for. First off, every spec can get high rating, you need the right setup, and some specs take a lot more skill to pull off in high ratingsthen others.
However, most people don’t understand, it isn’t the spec that is the problem a lot of the times, it is the competition. Even same side competition. Double melee is very strong in S3, but warrior/rogue is a prefered combo on some setups because of the abilitys that a rogue brings, which is an example of same side competition. Normal competition will also create dominate classes, if warlocks excel in 2s then you can see their counter class a rogue, doing very well. The main reason warlocks where not nerfed, is because of the buffs done to rogues counter nerfed them.
So, with the understanding that you don’t know whats coming yet, be on your toes and look for new comps that might work, as well with sticking with the normal Rogue/Ret, War/Druid/Ret combos, which are imo very strong. You might see ret/war/shaman become stronger, but that all depends on the strength of RPM’s next season, and I see them staying decent for the next season. Remember, pvp isn’t balanced and isn’t fair. Your going to have a MUCH harder time getting 2.2k then a rogue would, on top of that not all battlegroups are equal (Bloodlust being the main thing that stands out whenever people mention this) Also understand that Blizzard is really focusing on just holding out till WotLK to make any hard changes to classes which in turn will hopefully bring balance to pvp. So take it all with a grain of salt, don’t worry about Season 4.

Hey Slayton, what’s the best trinket besides the medallion for a ret pally? Cruelty or Determination or what else? I’m also a JCer so I can make the shadowsong panther.
You’re my hero!
Thanks

I’m not slayton, but I would prefer attack power over crit. Crit works directly agianst resilience in higher end pvp fights.

I go with whatever I need more of. Critical strike, even though negated by resilience offers burst, in PvP that is your main tool. With the 0/20/41 spec I would go with Determination, cause your AP is already hurting without divine strength. With 5/11/45 you could switch to Cruelty. Play with whatever you feel more comfortable with, I switch them out depending on weapon/gear setup. (especially with a cats edge that has no base crit on it :S)

hey man i have been goin around your site for quite a while now(2 hoursxD). you got some good statistics which are quite interesting, and funnily enough you are probably the only pvper with a brain.
i originally rolled a ret pala for a challenge, but earlier in my paladins time it seemed as tho i bit off more than i could chew. After countless guild applications denied and my morale broken i decided to try a little hardcore pvp. I ended up gettin 2k as retri which honestly was the hardest thing i ever did in my life seeing as i got it shortly after “valladin”.
Now i am currently raiding black temple and i have a new struggle to overcome. since i am full s3 my dps slacks compared to the full t6 hunters, mages i am up against.
I was thinking of basing my gear purley on haste. these pieces include, craftable plate bracers, hands, belt from bt trash, chest, legs from new badge lewt, cape from za timed 1st boss, neck from supremus, those 2 rings(njo idea where they are from) and totd. i calculated that in total i would be at about 300 maybe 340 haste ub. do you think i will see a sufficient dps increase?
P.s pvp is not fair and ret is seriousley underbalanced due to lack of viable and “overpowered” combos.
Secondly, dont roll ret if u want an ez ride in wow.

Sadly haste really only affects BE’s because of Seal of Blood. I dont know if i am right, but i would just focus on getting your crit chance to about 32%+ and AP to about 2200+ self buffed. Haste is just a plus.
