Ohai, going to keep this news post relativity small today! The time for entering your two cents for the contest (Defining the Paladin Skill) are over, and the winner should be announced the day before WotLK hits. There are a ton of long winded comments that might as well be essays to sift through, so I pretty much hate everybody right now.

Ret Paladin compensation. It’s like being young again, racing down the stairs to open up that present that has been taunting you ever since it stepped foot under the damned Christmas tree. It’s like being a schoolgirl; nothing like the rush of being blindfolded and slammed into the back of a dark van for the first time. Oh, the adrenaline rush. After the last few posts from Ghostcrawler, I think Blizzard is thoroughly satisfied with nerfing down a level 70 Ret’s burst from 3-shotting to 5-shotting; whilst wrecking things all over for 80 Rets. Alas, they come to us with the proposition of compensation, to finally end our woes.

To me, this gives everybody a chance to show Blizzard what Paladins truly want when it comes to PvE and PvP. The “mysterious” 11 point prot talent could make or break the class at this point.  I would thoroughly enjoy seeing Paladins getting something that leans the class towards a skill-focused phenomenon. Anything that leans them away from the unreliable mess that is the RNG system that helps them compete for the goods when it comes to top end competitive arena. Not to get ahead of myself, but I’ve come up with a good idea myself..

With that, the discussion begins. What do you want to see from Blizzard in the coming expansion? If they fix the class in the right way, I can only see good things happening to Paladins; hopefully it’ll stay that way for quite a while. Perhaps it’s too early to ask if the compensation is enough to help the class, but it doesn’t always hurt to speculate. Whoever posts the greatest idea wins their leg being sexxed by me, a reward vastly greater than Slayton’s.

A talent that turns Judgements into Strikes. Judgement Strike, if you will.

  2. CooX

ZOMG MEGAPHONE i love your ” sentences” !!

technicaly a sort of interrupt but i got another idea

Each class of wow can use, abuse , spam at least one think ( hammstring , moonfire, purge etc etc . . ) and pally can cleanse !!
i feel something like a def tool

maybe some kind of remote dispel =o similar of the druid spell , the one that remove one effect of poison each second .

ho and again im sorry for my bad sentences . english isnt a language i use so often .

  3. Doucard

Heroic Leap. Yes it’s not original. I do mean the buggy warrior one that got removed cause they couldn’t do the aim thing. Just don’t make it aim-able. Just make it like Blink but we jump x yards forward and do a 1 sec stun with no DR every 1 min.

  4. Raggsokk

The best possible spell would be “RNG POWAH”.

Gives the paladin a chance (1%) to one-hit the next opponent (last 1.5 seconds). Causes a 1 hour pseudo-forbearence decreasing damage by 250% and healing by 300%. 2 hour cooldown.

Imo paladins should get PET! Yes pet. Not perma, but something like “Summon Avenginq Angel” or something. Holy one for allys and bloody one for horde. It could have 5 min CD and angel would stay for 1 minute or so. Having some spells like holy nova to dps and heal at once by a small amount and its power would be stacking with your spellpower and AP! Thats good idea for lvl 80 spell.

Unfortunately, one 11-point talent in the prot tree is not likely to fix the glaring holes in our PvP arsenal. I would suggest that a couple of other things get tweaked a little more first.

    1) Armor => Int conversion (equating to approximately 300-350 intellect at level 70 - around 9k overall mana in full warrior plate)
    - This will help us get more out of Replenishment and JoW - 2 raid buffs that we bring which benefit EVERY OTHER mana-using class more than they do for us.

    2) JotW to include reducing cost of Judgements by 100%
    - Allows us to really get the 15% base mana out of this talent, which should make up for the ~5% discrepancy seen when attempting to sustain a standard damage rotation.
    - Obviously would help against mana drains and burns in PvP; we would always be able to regen mana by spamming nothing but Judgement. God help you if your seal falls off while you’re OOM though!

    3) Add Crusader Strike to the list of attacks that can trigger Righteous Vengeance
    - This would obviously allow the DoT effect to roll much more reliably, and give a little more return for our 5 points so low in the tree.

As for the 11-pointer, I’m really not expecting too much. Apparently our reliance on the tools that other melee classes bring is pretty much a built-in flaw used to keep us ‘balanced.’

Judgements of Faith (11-pt Protection talent)
    5% Base Mana
    1 minute cooldown
Your Judgement spells trigger an effect when they strike the target.
Judgement of Justice: Chains of Justice bind the target to the ground for 1 second, and their movement speed is reduced by 30% for the following 9 seconds. (This is in addition to the normal effect of JoJ.)
Judgement of Wisdom: Interrupts the target’s current spellcast, locks them out of that spell school for 3 seconds, and increases the mana cost of all spells cast by 30% for 10 seconds.
Judgement of Light: Reduces all healing done to the target by 30% for 10 seconds.
This effect has 3 charges and lasts for 1 minute.

Basically, would require some skill to master, but this one talent could potentially fix most of our flaws in a PvP scenario. Root/snare; check. Interrupt/spell lockout/mana-burn-esque; check. Healing reduction; check. When activated, this self-buff lasts for one minute and gives us 3 charges. Makes you actually have to burn a GCD to re-activate in mid-fight, and assuming you’re in melee the whole time, you only get 3/7.5 judgements per minute with this additional effect.

The talent would help prot, holy, and ret alike, which is really the essence of what this talent needs to accomplish in such a critical and accessible location for all 3 specs.

  7. Slayton

Methyldruius I really like those Judgment Ideas. They seem really powerful for an 11 point talent, but I would be estatic to see such a fun, interactive, game changing judgment pvp system like the one you just listed.

  8. Kierlak

A magic based snare with a 1 minute cooldown? Are you fucking kidding me? Pardon me, 3 snares within 1 minute with a minimum of 7 seconds between them. There’s no way THAT wouldn’t get dispelled faster than owlshit running down your back.

The other bad side of the idea is that you have to use JoJ in PvP, effectively removing the kick/MS from our usable abilities list.

The idea is much too limiting.

  9. Mike

We need either A: increased CS damage, (more than is there now)

A silencing effect added to crusader,

or Hand of Freedom Grants immunity to Stuns, and Fear effects. (Possibly dispelling 1-2 poisons while doing that, but that may or may not be too op.)

(Note: none of these are for the 11 point talent, although I’d still like to see a one point BoK again).

Cause 5 points is just lame… even if every single holy has it… We need the Improved BoW buff from them, especially since we are so incredibly mana dependent to sustain our ‘buffed’ dps.

  10. Keelval

I love those judgement ideas too. I honestly don’t see them locking you out of the MS and interrupt effect Kierlak. I know I don’t HAVE to use JoJ in pvp. At the moment I only use JoJ on druids, shamans, sometimes rogues, and the occasional caster w/speed enchant/gem that uses it to great effectiveness. 70% of the time in arena I use JoL. It helps ENORMOUSLY in keeping my warrior up. What’s the point of keeping JoJ on a target when he can’t get away? I rarely go through an arena match where I don’t use all 3 judgements and I never go through a BG without using all 3 judgements. I think the only matchups I’ve done in arena using only JoJ was double boomkin, and that was because of a combination of it being druids and the match only lasting 25seconds.

And Mike, I think just a HoF that grants immunity to stuns and fears, without the dispelling poisons is OP. That’s just too much on top of our bubble. A silencing effect on CS might work, but only if it was maybe a second long. That’d only be 5 seconds between silences. That’s just taking away their chance at victory by a bit too much.

And do you guys think Megaphone’s prize scared people away? I mean, there are almost no posts for it. I’m not putting up an idea because I don’t have one, but I don’t think I would if I did. I mean, if I wanted Mega’s prize, I have plenty of friends with dogs, I’ll just go to their house. ;P

Methyldruius’s ideas are perfect. Those judgements will solve all our problems.
